Control updates for Roeders machines

Control updates for Roeders machines

All Roeders machines supplied since 1995 can cost-effectively be upgraded to the latest RMS6 control version. This is possible because of the PC-based control hardware, and because Roeders develops the CNC control RMS6, the drive technology and the machine mechanics in-house as one coordinated system, so an update is not limited by the interfaces of bought-in components.

  • 1995: Roeders machines supplied since then can be upgraded
  • Up to 30 years: Service life of a Roeders machine
  • 1 version: Identical RMS6 version across the machine fleet
  • < 0.1 ms: Block processing time of the current RMS6

What an update changes on an existing machine

Machining times of one part with successive RMS6 versions

An update also makes older machines more precise and faster in their machining operations, and the full range of the newest RMS6 functions becomes available.

The current CNC control RMS6 processes an NC block in less than 0.1 ms with a lookahead of more than 10,000 blocks. Its spline interpolation along the toolpath is continuously refined down to the nanometre range, with tangential and curvature constant transitions between blocks.

Typical reasons for an update

  • Higher precision and shorter machining times on an existing machine
  • Access to the newest RMS6 functions
  • One identical RMS6 version on machines from different build years
  • Productive use over a service life of up to 30 years

One control version across the machine fleet

If a customer uses several Roeders machines built in different years, all of them can be operated with the latest and therefore identical RMS6 version. Operators then work with one user interface and the same set of functions on every machine.

The RMS6 processes Heidenhain® and ISO program code, also in combination, and post-processors are available for all leading CAM systems.

Value over the service life

A Roeders machine can be in use for up to 30 years. Because the CNC control can be brought up to the current version during that time, the machine does not become technically obsolete when a new control generation is released, and the investment keeps its value.

  • 1994: Start of the continuous development of the RMS6 control
  • 1995: Machines supplied since then can be upgraded to the latest RMS6 version
  • Today: Older machines become more precise and faster with the newest RMS6 functions
  • Up to 30 years: The oldest Roeders machines with RMS6 control are 30 years old and can be updated to the latest control version

Frequently asked questions about control updates

Which Roeders machines can receive a control update?

All Roeders machines supplied since 1995 can be upgraded to the latest RMS6 control version. This is possible because of the PC-based control hardware.

What does a control update bring to an older machine?

It makes older machines more precise and faster in their machining operations, and the full range of the newest RMS6 functions becomes available.

Is a control update expensive?

No. Because of the PC-based control hardware, the upgrade to the latest RMS6 version is cost-effective. The control update is installed in less than one day. If only the latest RMS6 software needs to be installed, the software update can be carried out by the customer himself. If an older control is upgraded, new hardware consisting of PC boards might also be required. In this case, a service technician comes to install it.

Can machines from different build years run the same control version?

Yes. If several Roeders machines built in different years are in use, all of them can be operated with the latest, identical RMS6 version.

Why can Roeders offer updates for machines built since 1995?

Roeders develops the CNC control RMS6, the drive technology and the machine mechanics in-house as one coordinated system. The RMS6 has been continuously developed since 1994, and thanks to the PC-based control hardware, machines supplied since 1995 can run its latest version.

How long is a Roeders machine in use?

Up to 30 years or more. Control updates keep the machine at a current CNC control state during that time, so it does not become technically obsolete when a new control generation is released.
